If you’ve ever gone shopping for a new pillow, you know what a pain in the neck it can be. Some are too soft, others are too uncomfortable, and the rest are just plain bad. Luckily, the company My Pillow came out with a supreme line of pillows that are comfy, durable, and the perfect size. Now the only question is — should you go with the Classic or the Premium?

If you can’t make up your mind about which one to buy, you’ll want to read these reviews. So, sit back, relax, and get ready to find the best pillow of your life.

About My Pillow

My Pillow is a US-based company that was founded in 2004 by Mike Lindell. His innovative open-cell, poly-foam pillow design made the company a huge success, and it has sold over 41 million pillows so far.

But what helped My Pillow really take off was an infomercial Lindell created back in 2011. Nowadays, the company makes around 25,000 pillows per day, and it also manufactures mattresses, animal beds, and sheets.

My Pillow Classic Series Review

The Classic Series utilizes the My Pillow’s patented interlocking fiber technology, which ensures that the pillow never goes flat. It’s supposed to give you as much lumbar and neck support as you need.

You can buy the Classic in two different sizes: Standard/Queen and King. The Standard is 28 inches long and 18.5 inches wide. The King is longer than the Queen and comes in at 38 inches, perfect for all bigger beds. Both the King and the Queen are medium fills and only come in white.

If you get the Classic Series, My Pillow will give you a 10-year warranty on the product and a 60-day money-back guarantee. You’ll have plenty of time to test it out and see if it works for you or if you want to send it back.

Another cool thing about the Classic is that it is machine-washable and dryer-safe. In fact, My Pillow suggests washing it every four months or so to maintain the ultimate level of comfort.

The Upsides

My Pillow products are made in the US and come in eco-friendly rolled packaging. When you get your pillow, make sure to put it in the dryer on the lowest setting for about 15 minutes to get it to fluff up. Once it’s fluffy, it’s pretty much ready to go — you can start using it right away.

Due to the innovative interlocking design, the Classic pillow doesn’t lose its shape. No matter how long you’ve been using it for or how often you wash it, this is one pillow that won’t go flat on you.

At first, you might feel that it’s a bit lumpy or tough, but that’s all pretty normal. It just takes a few days for the pillow to adjust to your head shape. It should smooth out quickly enough.

The Downsides

When you first get the pillow, it might have a strong, chemical smell. To get rid of it, you’ll have to wash it a couple of times or let it air out outside.

For whatever reason, My Pillow doesn’t sell the Classic Series on its website anymore, so you won’t be able to get it directly from them. Luckily, Amazon is here to save the day, as the line is still available there.

Finally, I wouldn’t recommend getting the Classic Series if you like sleeping on your stomach. It’ll probably be too firm for you, and you might get a stiff neck.

My Pillow Premium Series Review

The Premium features the same interlocking fiber technology, but the fill is different. The Classic has a polyester fiber filling, while the Premium is filled with foam.

Just like its predecessor, the newer version comes in two sizes: Queen and King. However, both are smaller than the Classic and have a 2-inch gusset.

The Premium Queen is 26 inches long and 16.5 inches wide, while the King is 32 inches by 16.5 inches.

Another thing that the Premium and Classic pillows share is that they’re both machine-washable and dryable. Every few months, you can just pop them in the washer to keep them nice and fluffy.

You will also get a 60-day money-back guarantee, along with a 10-year warranty. Don’t worry, though; you’ll get both no matter if you order from Amazon or the My Pillow website.

The Upsides

Unlike the Classic, the Premium Series has four different firmness or loft levels. You can get it in:

  • Least firm (Yellow level)
  • Medium firm (Green level)
  • Firm (White level)
  • Extra firm (Blue level)

If you’re not sure which one you should get, go to the Premium section on My Pillow’s website. There, right below the description, you’ll see the Find Your Fill Level button. When you click on it, it’ll open a short questionnaire.

Once you’ve answered the four questions, the website will tell you which fill level would work best for you. Of course, that’s just a suggestion; at the end of the day, you should buy what you’re most comfortable with.

But if you usually enjoy sleeping on down or feather pillows, I recommend reducing the level of support the website recommends. You might find the pillow too firm and thus never get a good night’s sleep. So, if they tell you to buy the blue, you’re better off getting the green.

Another way you could figure out which loft level works for you is by going off your shirt size. For example, if you’re a small or medium, I recommend going with the yellow or white levels. There’s a fitting guide on Amazon’s page where you can find your ideal match.

The Downsides

The biggest problem with ordering My Pillow Premium is that there are some inconsistencies with the product. While some people swear by the foam stuffing, I know that others have had a problem with it separating while they sleep.

What’s more, oftentimes, people complain that their pillows are either over-stuffed or not stuffed enough.

If it’s too filled for your liking, I suggest taking some of the foam out and stitching the pillow back up. However, if it’s not firm enough or doesn’t have enough filling, you’ll have to return it and ask for a refund or a new pillow.

Also, just like with the Classic, you might find that the Premium has a strong chemical smell right out of the bag. Again, just run it through the washer a couple of times or let it air out outside.

My Pillow Classic vs. Premium: Comparison

Let’s break everything down and see what the biggest differences between the Classic and Premium are.

For starters, the fill is completely different — the Classic has a polyester fiber filling, while the Premium has foam. Also, the Premium has a wider variety of firmness levels, so it might be easier to find what you like.

When it comes to the price, the Classic is cheaper, but not by a lot, so it shouldn’t affect your final decision too much. Luckily, if your heart is set on the Premium, there’s a way to lower the price. Often, you can find used pillows on Amazon that are in great shape and available at just a fraction of the cost.

Both are extremely durable, machine-washable, and come with an incredible 10-year warranty. What’s more, if you’re not happy with your pillows, you can return them before your 60 days are up.

Classic Series Pros:

  • Bigger than the Premium
  • Has two firmness levels
  • Doesn’t lose its shape
  • Cheaper than the Premium

Classic Series Cons:

  • Has a strong chemical smell out of the bag
  • Not for people who like sleeping on their stomachs

Premium Series Pros:

  • Has four firmness levels
  • Made with cotton ticking and foam
  • You can get it at a lower price on Amazon

Premium Series Cons:

  • Some inconsistencies in the foam filling
  • Strong chemical smell

Things to Consider When Choosing a Pillow

Before you make your final decision on Classic vs. Premium (or any other pillow, for that matter!), you should consider a few things:

The size of your pillow will have a huge impact on your overall sleep quality. Once you find the size that’s right for you, it’ll provide you with enough support, no matter how much you toss and turn in your sleep.

Luckily, there’s an easy way to figure out what you need since most pillows follow bed sizes. Most companies make Standard, Queen, and King-sized pillows and mattresses. I recommend sticking with those and not going overboard. Otherwise, the pillow won’t look right on your bed, and you won’t be comfortable.

Another thing you have to consider before buying your new pillow is how firm you want it to be. Most often, you’ll find that companies give you four options:

  • Soft
  • Medium soft/Medium firm
  • Firm
  • Very/extra firm

Each of these is recommended for specific sleeping positions. For example, if you sleep on your back or stomach, you should go for the soft one, as it allows your head to sink in.

Back and side sleepers should consider getting the medium-firm pillows because they have slightly less give than the soft ones. Most firm pillows are made from foam or polyester, which makes them the perfect choice for any side sleeper.

Extremely firm pillows have little to no give and hold their shape, no matter what. They’re ideal for anyone who has had a neck injury or is a light sleeper.

The pillow filling will determine how well it holds its shape over time and what kind of support it offers. The most popular types of fillings include:

  • Cotton
  • Memory foam
  • Polyester
  • Down

Cotton pillows are eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, and breathable. Unfortunately, they lose their shape quite a bit over time, so you have to replace them every few years.

Memory foam is a lot sturdier than cotton, and it molds precisely to your head. On the other hand, polyester is not as firm as memory foam, but it’s cheap and pretty widespread. Like cotton pillows, polyester ones will lose their shape and can become lumpy over time.

You can also buy down pillows, which are plush, luxurious, and expensive. They’re usually filled with either goose or duck feathers and hold their shape pretty well.

If you often can’t sleep at night because you run hot, you have to consider buying a breathable pillow. You need a pillow that’s going to let the air flow through it, instead of trapping it inside.

The denser a pillow is, the less breathable it is. So, memory foam won’t be a good choice for you if you get hot quickly — but polyester might. If you want the full cooling effect, I suggest pairing your polyester or shredded foam pillow with some microfiber sheets.

Nowadays, you can also buy pillows with cooling gels that are supposed to keep you refreshed all night long. Still, as far as I have seen, those are usually a hoax, and any cooling sensation that you might experience at first will dissipate over time.

Easy to Clean

Since pillows can hold so much bacteria and moisture, machine-washable pillows should be a top priority for anyone who struggles with bedroom odor.

Given that you should be washing your pillow every three months or so, it’s key that you check the care labels before you commit to buying anything.

If you’re looking for something that’s low-maintenance, stay away from down pillows because those need to be dry-cleaned. A hypoallergenic pillow, however, should be able to withstand the hotter cycles. Remember to replace your pillow every two to three years.

Lastly, consider the guarantees and warranties the company offers. Since high-quality pillows are pretty expensive, you should be able to test them out before making your final decision.

Final Thoughts

As a long-time user and fan of the entire My Pillow brand, I first started off with the Classic. I used that pillow for years and had no intention of swapping it for a new one.

But after seeing Mike Lindell’s Premium infomercial about a dozen times, I felt tempted to try it. Now, all I can say is that it definitely lives up to the hype. The foam filling is soft, yet firm, and I’ve been sleeping better than ever since I bought it.

Even though the prices of the Classic and Premium may seem a little steep, just look at it as an investment. And trust me — once you get any of the My Pillow products, you’ll never look back.
